Over the past few months Scott and Dave have been on the road, around the State facilitating to many clubs and impacting even more communities. Dave and Scott the absent fathers and husbands as they hit the road over the past two months visiting townships such as Tytynder, Jerilderie, Yackandandah and everywhere in between.
The delivery of the Mawson’s Wellbeing and Mental Health Recovery Project has enabled this road trip and begun in regional Victoria with the first session delivered recently to the Wodonga Raiders Cricket Club. There are currently 31 clubs booked in for the Mental Health and Wellbeing session as well as the on-line Positive Parenting/Coaching Course. This project has received excellent support from the Indigo Shire Council who have connected SALT with many clubs in the region. Mawson’s Concrete and Quarries have forwarded the invitation for their employees to come along and join in a session in their local communities.
Hear about a few of their stories…
After a 3 hour drive to Lake Boga to deliver a Mawson’s Mental Health and Wellbeing session, the last thing you want to hear is the President tell you, “We’ve got no power”. After being told it will be restored in 30 mins, plan B was down to the pub. Then someone noticed the netball court change rooms had power. Plan C. Bring the chairs, tables and pizza, we’re having an outdoors presentation on the netball court! How appropriate. The location of many a memorable victory. What a beautiful setting as the sun went down (and the screen became visible) A really memorable and special engagement with a wonderful club. This could only work in Lake Boga during March. Not recommended for Ballarat in July.
Scott, had the Chiltern FC recently and said the skills were up on the track and they’re my early tip for Premiers in the Tallangatta and District Footy League.
Interesting group to get talking. Had a few open up but there was some reluctance to the group. Interesting the coach put himself down as a 4 on the scale and it was all about not spending enough time with the family. Another bloke put himself down as a two and couldn’t talk about it but we made sure he was going to be checked up on.
Testimonial – “The SALT Wellbeing and Mental Health presentation was a great way to kickstart our 2022 season. The presentation was engaging and allowed us to have conversations with members of our Club that we might not otherwise have. The presentation was thought-provoking and provided us with questions/strategies that we can use in many contexts to check on the wellbeing of others.
The presentation has prompted our Club to establish a Club Wellbeing Team and to continue our relationship with SALT. Thanks to Mawsons Concrete and Quarries for their support of this programme and enabling us to have access to it; a very worthwhile and life-giving experience.” Chris Telford – Yackandandah FNC
“Undertaking Sports and Life Training at the Lindenow South Football Netball Club this year has proved to be one of the most valuable and important training we have ever committed to as a club. SALT allowed the playing group which consisted of both netballers and footballers to either privately check in with the way they were really feeling or discuss their concerns with the playing group. This became a real eye opener, it has now made the playing group stronger and more committed to each other but has confirmed the clubs direction to focus on mental health as a priority.” – Noel Jansz, President Lindenow South FNC.
“Club well-being is a rising priority at the Tocumwal football and netball club. As a club, we understand the important role we play in helping people through tough times. The SALT session with Scott, helped bring this priority to fruition and was delivered in a compassionate, funny and non-confrontational way. Scott’s style of delivery was warming and created a safe space for people to discuss some personal issues they faced and allowed us to bond closer as a team and community. Clubs with a focus on player welfare should be engaged with SALT. Tocumwal FNC would like to sincerely thanks Mawson’s for their commitment to supporting grass roots sports clubs.” – Matt Peterson – President Tocumwal FNC.
