Despite enduring their own struggles, local sporting and community clubs in East Gippsland have approached SALT to help them offer much needed support. During the last week of June 2021, SALT will be visiting the region to deliver Mental Health & Wellbeing Sessions and set up Club Well-Being Teams in 16 different clubs.

The 90 minute, face-to-face Well-Being And Mental Health sessions give participants an understanding of common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression and provides them with positive mental health habits for life. In addition, they educate participants on how to have real conversations that aim to reduce the stigma that is often associated with mental health issues. Clubs will be guided through a process known as Post Traumatic Growth which research indicates is highly effective in developing hope and purpose out of tragedy.

The central focus of the Club Well-Being Team program is to equip a range of people to be proactive in speaking to people around the club and supporting them. They will be taught to ask good questions, to be active listeners and to be connectors, making sure that everyone has someone that they can rely on for support.

Completing the course sets each club up to play a pivotal role as a mental wellbeing resource in their community.
